Tales from the Crypt: The dangerous game of Al Davis
Lawrence continues to make us a tour of the "worst" NFL franchise with the Raiders today ...
Back liabilities Raiders
Let us begin back ... especially to the NFL Combine in 2007. There, a young boy impresses. The rave reviews are:
"His talent is most consistent. It is rare to see a boy of that size, possess such power in the arm. " GM Phil Savage (Cleveland Browns)
" I do not understand that we do not pick as No. 1 in the draft. " John Clayton (ESPN)
Indeed, said the boy in question was chosen as No. 1 (by the Raiders). Four years later, he is unemployed. His name? JaMarcus Russell. A subject of crises and short nights for Coach Tom Cable.
Anyway, the Raiders have specialized in very specific choices. In the Draft 2009, Oakland had ignored the far more talented as WR Jeremy Maclin (Eagles) and Michael Crabtree (49ers) to get Darrius Heyward-Bey. The latter had for him that his time at 40 yards dash time (4.3 seconds), making it the fastest WR in the entire NBA Draft 2009. The problem is that speed alone does not much when you can not catch a ball. Raiders fans present that day to hold the Draft whistled their team with the announcement of the choice of Heyward-Bey.
Recently, I read an interview with Coach John Harbraugh (Baltimore Ravens) A passage was very interesting. Baltimore is currently in a similar situation in Oakland: In Search of a threat deep in the ground to develop a set vertically. Coach Harb stated:
"We always try to improve and the idea would be to recruit a fast WR. In fact, I have guys who are good, not just fast. Is their time at 40 yards dash time is that important? They may be fast but are they able to play fast? Is what they can get rid of their marking soon? Is what they are able to go catch the ball in any perimeter of the land?
You must assess the recipient, whether their chosen field stands inside the ground or outside. The guy that the Ravens need, need to win in one against one. It's hard to find this in college today. Ca do is taught. Who still plays press coverage in college? It's so easy to get open when you need to get rid of the wind. "
is the problem of those Raiders who adore all that is flashy, all that glitters. Ca dire reflection, vision over the medium to long term. We do not ask the right questions.
Finally, the best deal in Oakland is not in the draft, but rather in a trade. Jason Campbell, acquired for a 4th round pick (2012!), Has helped stabilize the ailing team. 8 wins 8 losses. Some good performances (double victory against the Broncos with a 59. 14 (week 7), double victory against the Chiefs) and some coarse disappointments (defeats against the little flaming Cardinals, 49ers). First team in NFL history to finish undefeated in its division without making the playoffs. A little stat that allows you to forget another one stuck in Oakland: In 2009, she became the first team in NFL history to have lost at least 11 games each season since 7 years.
Al Davis is never satisfied.
Al Davis is not happy. He decided to take action. The young owner of the Raiders, the top of its 81 spring announced January 4 that the contract of Tom Cable would not be renewed.
Several players including Shane Lechler (P) have regretted this move. But no matter, Hue Jackson (offensive coordinator) is already named Head Coach. Al Saunders, among debauched of the Ravens, will assist. Journalist ad tweeter that Davis has no confidence in Jackson and plans to replace the slightest misstep by Saunders. Atmosphere! Atmosphere!
But he is there to really wonder? Have we not dealing with the most whimsical owner of the NFL? There are times like this where Al Davis obviously feels inspired. 1980 was also one year in the vintage genre.
At that time, Al Davis tried in vain to make the necessary adjustments to the Oakland Coliseum (including a draft of the most luxurious lodges). Frustrated by his failure, the idea of moving the franchise from Oakland to Los Angeles was a tremendous financial opportunity, he had missed. Al Davis was two objectives: Los Angeles is the second largest market in terms of audience in the United States, which would expand the topic of pay-per-view (television event fee). Al Davis had also export its idea of dressing dementia in Los Angeles. For such a motion is carried, a majority of three quarters of the owners of franchises in the NFL had to agree. The result was unequivocal: 22 Owners were against the move of the franchise. None for. 5 abstained. Is this enough to stop the fiery Raiders owner? No, not really. A court order maybe? Still no.
The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (the institution that owns the stadium and is responsible to find an occupant), which had already lost through the throat of the Los Angeles Rams (left to play in Anaheim in 1995 before becoming the St Louis Rams) saw his football dreams go up in smoke with the failure of the Raiders. A complaint was then filed against the NFL for abusing its dominant position. It was supported by ... Al Davis himself. This will not stop here, making its own efforts on his part. In May 1982, the U.S. court ruled in favor of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Al Davis and ordered the NFL to astronomical costs. It was also a period when Al Davis was the sole owner of an NFL franchise to support the USFL (United States Football League), a rival league. The rancor was tenacious.
In any case, the path to success for the Los Angeles Raiders was launched. With the SuperBowl XVIII to key a victory 38-9 against the Redskins, January 22, 1984.
The first half of the 80 was great for this franchise. Many kids & teens to have supported this team at the time (one of the most famous being the rapper Ice Cube).
But good things only last so long. The results declined rapidly. During that time, our spirited Al Davis felt cheated by the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The stadium, built in 1921, accused the coup. Les travaux promis pour le projet de loges n'avaient toujours pas débuté. But worse, the neighborhood of the stadium was delivered to a crime of the most consistent. The ebullient owner then began looking again at another stage that can accommodate his toy the Raiders. Various projects such as Hollywood Park, Irwindale, fell into the water.
date to 1989 was the first for Al Davis to repatriate the Raiders in Oakland. In 1991, Davis made official its desire for a return to roots. The negotiations took four years to be finalized.
Throughout this time, it was also the rivalry between two men: Al Davis and Pete Rozelle (NFL Commissioner - a predecessor of Roger Goddell) rivalry back in the pantheon of history for many American fans. Rozelle retired in 1989 and therefore does not undergo the latest escapades of Al Davis. Because the latter was determined to pay the NFL for his return to Oakland. So 1995 was another great year in the tumultuous relations with the League of Davis. A first trial against the NFL to claim the exclusive rights to market in Los Angeles, despite the fact that the Raiders were well in Oakland. Minutes lost. A second accusing the NFL of having sabotaged the efforts of Al Davis in the construction of a stadium at Hollywood Park. Minutes river with a first positive opinion for the NFL. However, the jury was disqualified for having pre-conceived negative against Al Davis. A trial which took effect until July 2, 2007 when the Florida Supreme Court upheld the ruling adversely against Davis.
The dangerous game of Al Davis.
Back in 2011, especially in the month of February. Within a week, the Raiders have signed Richard Seymour (DT), John Henderson (DT) Stanford & Routt (CB), extensions of contracts on the short term for a total of $ 69.5 million. For
LB Kamerion Wimbley, negotiations were more difficult. To avoid that the player can have contact with other franchises in the free agency, Oakland was going on a contract somewhat off-the-law. The NFL Management Council in Oakland had to remind that the contract in question was not viable, exceeding the 30% rule. Roughly speaking, there can be an increase of over 30% of salary annually. As a result, the Raiders opted for the franchise tag, which means that Wimbley signing Thursday, March 3 a tender for 11.3 million $.
And it's not over: the agenda of the negotiations should take place with Zach Miller (TE). Al Davis spends all is when the NFL is trying to swallow the players' union that the current financial model is no longer valid, that employees should review their pay reduced. This is not very smart, and the Davis brothers have understood. There were no signatures to date of ringing in the market, some franchises have chosen the bias to cloud the issue (of signing a tender, and then renegotiate a long term contract will be signed when the CBA). The small game Al Davis can have a significant impact on the negotiations of the CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement), but also the transactions of other teams (in free agency, draft ...). Roger Gooddell Hello, I present to you Al Davis. One of your predecessors, Pete Rozelle, had already pulled the hair with him.
To sign a player, the modus operandi of the teams (and agents) to take into account the prevailing wages in the NFL. Thus, ensuring at Stanford Routt pay huge $ 31.5 million over three years, the Raiders generate inflation more consistent level of CB supposed to land in free agency. That said, this indicates that Nnamdi Asomugha will not be a Raiders next season (for those who still have doubts). However, this reassessment of paychecks for a good CB like Routt, but frankly not an elite talent, obviously cons-productive for the League.
Already last year, Al Davis had signed Shane Lechler (P) & Sebastian Janikowski (K) for record contracts. The third robber, benefiting from the largesse of Davis, was named Jon Condo. Who? You would be right not to know. Condo is the guy that takes the ball when trying to turn Janikowski kick. $ 1.68 million to hold a ball. We appreciate that? Thank you Al Davis. The boiling
Raiders owner, who has dropped his wallet, arouses desires.
recently Darth Vader , himself, was trying to get hired as a bodyguard for a 6 digit salary:
Seriously, it's called the "salary drivers. Such transactions entered directly into account calculations of the League for the franchise tag and player salaries transition. What is the advantage of opening the wallet to point? In terms of revenue, it means nothing. For the American magazine "Forbes", the Raiders were one of the teams was worth the least expensive of the NFL, or about $ 758 million. A figure was down 5% in one year. The cause? Already at the time of the Pharaohs contracts for players who have flopped resounding: DeAngelo Hall, Javon Walker and especially the $ 40 million guaranteed for JaMarcus Russell. In addition, revenues generated through the stage (Ticket ...) are unlikely to have optimism.
The fact is that Al Davis has 81 years, his health is failed, and today he press to find the intoxication of a team triumphant, time to success of the Los Angeles Raiders, for example. Whatever the money spent. And, in his view, players like Richard Seymour or Kamerion Wimbley can be generals in the field needed to move forward.
So let's recap. Situations Seymour, Henderson, & Routt Wimbley, it rises to $ 80 million, this of course without the inherent bonuses to all contracts. All these criticisms on the potential impact on the CBA, on free agency, the management team led to Al Davis send his right arm for a press conference this Monday, Feb. 28. The justifications are tasty, John Herrera wish:
"When you sign these players with contracts that we proposed, these investments are made for the future. These guys must first play and earn that money, before thinking about getting paid. The Raiders have so far spent no penny.
These transactions, they were conducted to protect our franchise, our team, allowing us to move forward. "
Oh, by the gentle reminder ... ... before ending with the end of CBA last season was no salary cap. The current negotiation of the new CBA will lead necessarily to a salary cap for next season. The result may be fun to see the rest of the team composition of the Raiders. We wish much luck to the Raiders Army. They will need it. Because we must not forget that despite all these setbacks the Raiders remain one of the teams in the NFL the most popular throughout the United States and around the World.

News from the French university teams via Alexis Girault Apaches and some advice to those wishing to join their adventure.
The absence of a national university league has been filled: A few months ago after a board of directors of the FFSU which heard proposals from Phoenix INP Toulouse and Lyon CPE Apaches. Both teams Province and the teams of the former AFAU in Ile de France are part, as follows: The
BlackJack21 of paris 8 13
The Snakes de Paris 5
Castors TVE Paris
The Phoenix Toulouse
The Apaches CPE Lyon
Regarding the 3 teams in Paris, their championship didn't started with a big question at their CRSU who gave no news. They are therefore likely to organize a championship friendly between them.
For the Toulouse team: Already 2 games and 2 wins against a team from the Federation, Gerfauts Montauban. They prepare for their next friendly match against the Vyper Beziers.
For Apaches PBS, the formation of the team is not yet complete. They will receive 24 current facilities in May and have yet to seek SUAPS to obtain slots at La Doua. Their coach Chris Sidhoum to follow the coaching courses to be formalized. Their first games are scheduled for next year against different Teams FFFA Rhone Alps. Frank Lazaro through technical LIRRAFA met us and supports us to develop our team.
NEW TEAMS
- The Titans ESME & Sudria GSS MS Paris, took advantage of the existence of AFAU to grow rapidly. They have the equipment and land, but does not wish to participate in a championship yet seen their recent birth.
- The Stunners of Bordeaux 3 and Dark Owls ESC Dijon are teams that have formalized their association status and are currently in the process of financing the facilities.
- Strasbourg, Rouen and Paris Dauphine during the research / recruiting for the creation of a team.
HOW
The principle of developing a team and are given advice on this facebook page or a number of current teams are present: http://www.facebook.com/ligue.U. FFA
advice in general:
- Contact SUAPS his BDS and to propose the creation of a team, identifying the number of victims (around 50 players at the beginning is a good base). Search with them for land availability.
- Contact the regional center FFFA to inform them of the project, the existence of the National League, and a support request (Partnership team, shared workouts, coaching, golf, gear ...)
- Contact CRSU to apply for registration as U.S. soccer team in the National League University.
- Get quotes for the purchase of equipment from some specialists (Forelle, Team Colors ...)
- then work on funding! The sinews of war as much as university club that "normal"!

How The Odds Work In Proline
: hangover after the Fiesta.
BCS advocates like to talk about the tradition associated with each of these Bowls. But we know very well that the real reason that drives the 6 major conferences not to implement the playoffs is foremost in the portfolio.
Do not share the cake with other universities in the first division, even if the cake of the playoffs would certainly bigger than the current one is crucial for them. That is why for those who dream of seeing the BCS fall, the misadventures of UConn following the Fiesta Bowl this year are good news. If, because of lack of interest some BCS Bowls meet, you start talking about losses and gains, it's a safe bet that the opinion, tradition or not, will soon change in some members of the 6 major conferences.
It has indeed to learn that overall, the University of Connecticut has lost almost $ 2 million because of its presence at the Fiesta Bowl. A Bowl yet distributes 17 million dollars to two guests! The reason for these losses? * The Big East
replied gains on Bowls between all its members and from U Conn was 2.5 million.
* Expenses related to moving the team, staff, the cheers, the band were 1.14 million. Logically
UConn would have benefited from a gain of 1.35 million but ... UConn had to pay almost $ 3 million at the Fiesta Bowl tickets unsold to his fans. In fact of the 17,500 tickets that U Conn has received for his fans, but she has sold only 2771! This is what happens when the BCS tries to sell us as "major bowl" game between the No. 5 Oklahoma and a team not even ranked in the top 25 and finished the season with a mediocre record of 8-5.
UConn can not even blame his own fans who were likely to move into Arizona but that the vast majority bought their tickets at bargain prices on sites like Stubhub resale rather than to provide cheap "official" to the University. As you can see in the picture above, the stadium was also not filled at kickoff of this game, even if the organizers all the tickets have been sold ... at the expense of the guests! The Huskies, who have increasingly been rolled 48-20 by the Sooners, retain bitter memories of what was technically the biggest game in the history of the university.

Elite: Day 3
little synopsis of the third day, when we arrive third Championship Elite 2011. Some lessons: confirmation for Flash and the Argonauts, it gets stuck to the Black Panthers, Dolphins and Templars. Centaurs always surprise us. The Cougars scariest counters ...
In the North, many observers were looking forward to the rematch of the final Elite 2010. The score was tight, the defenses took precedence over the attacks. The Spartans (1-2) 12-14 tilt at home against Flash (3-0). Of Amiens who had weakened by the absence of their owner RB (S. October) and two of their receivers (including A. Couvin) and lose the game including special team Following a good job of defensive coordinator Flash.
The hero of the evening: LB John Breza (3 tackles) covering the ball in-goal after a punt Picard countered and that proves to be a decisive second time after his feat in its first week cons the Cougars. The QB Lyle Moevao Flash is a bit out of his reserve with 14/24, 171 yards and 1 TD.
Opposite Chief Gunner Perez Mattison has launched many (21 passing attempts for 5 completed, 177 yards) to his WR Taber Lemarre who took advantage of his height (1.90 m) for 3 balls and catcher to win 124 yards. At this stage
Escutary, match between the Knights Templar (0-3) and Cougars (2-1) was an orgy of TD air! Both teams have accumulated nearly 650 yards a pass and 8 TDs.
The MVP is the Cougars California QB Kevin Craft throwing for 427 yards (club record) and 5 TDs. Two of his receivers (Hebel and Cabarrus) finished the match with more than 100 yards. Defense (probably released) still has conceded 28 points, note the 8 tackles Guillaume Collas. Inevitably, when you see the face of this match we can dream confrontation with the Argonauts. In short, the second straight win (final score 47-28) for players Xavier Mas. The
Templars had to manage the departure of RB Daniel Libre, left without leaving an address. Free Exit, welcome to Lamar Lewis (ex-FSU / Georgia Southern). Defending Yvelines took on water due to lack of concentration and intensity, despite working in defense of Rody Surpin (LB) credited with six tackles. A defense that has turned the corner in the second half by conceding only 9 points. The satisfaction of this game is attack: The QB Jonathan Eckman, who seems to be improving with every game, has found his receivers (17/27, 223 yards and 3 TDs), including the Templars MVP Jeremy Larroque that score 3 TDs (6 receptions for 63 yards).
In the match featuring the South was the confrontation between Centaurs (2-1) and Panthers (1-2) and must say it has kept its promises.
Under pouring rain, Thonon struck first and led 13-0 early in the score (TDS Kiernan running and Wells pass Sprauel) taking advantage of two interceptions of passes Grenoble. The Centaurs came back on the first TD (qb sneak from Sinotte) at end of second quarter. May be too greedy, the Savoyards were not killing then the clock in the final seconds of the half-time, tried unsuccessfully several passes and made the ball to the premises. Those they took advantage to get ahead just before half-time 14-13 on a second hit (pass on Dabla Sinotte). The defenses would take precedence over the attacks in the second half time and end up scoring Dauphinois resisted even 3 extra points after a costly fumble Thonon. A 17-13 victory that made the many ecstatic audience.
MVP of that game, catcher Anthony Dabla which has multiplied the acrobatics and big games (including 1 TD). Thonon side still a good game of runner D Kiernan, cutting several times (1TD).
In the other match South much less suspense. The Argos (3-0) had no difficult to beat the Dolphins (0-3). Nine touchdowns for a 63-6 lashing with 7 assists from Adam Kruse . Performance is quite extraordinary (the first of its kind in the Elite?). The receiver Adrian Ortu 3 of those affected took delivery.
The next weekend early inter-conference games with, among others, a promising Aix-Amiens.

Cadet, girls, zebras ...
Cadet (who found a new lease on land these days!) Remains on the side of the girls and tells us that both those who chose to wear the uniform of striped referees ...
"We're back on the side of our referees so important to our meetings take place and simply the quality of a good game of football is to go ...
Since the 90s, female referees were made to discover little by little. I do not know the national figures but they are now a good package to trample our lawns hexagonal. In terms of club referees are more more numerous, and their number is also up at the regional level, but strangely the doors seem to be enclosed in National (Editor's note: To our knowledge only two women referees are "ARCC D1-D2," Puig Mariannick Flash and Iris Rackwitz Servals) and International level. Similarly the position of referees is still very masculine. If I am correct in 25 years of land through France I have never had the opportunity to see beautiful women zebras take command of one of our elite games or D2.
The development of women's teams feature that I mentioned in my last article I should hope so bring a little more than heels and talent to our team of arbitration. Finally we all hope! Short message to the Arbitration Board: A small advertising campaign to the young ladies would not be bad, you miss that referees via our clubs ... What do you think ?????
PS: A big thank you to Valerie Mariners Valves and her friends for the photo! "

He was replaced by RB / KR Lamar Lewis (Georgia Southern '08). The template remains the same: A small but compact runner (1.73 m, 90 kg). After a solid career in HS in Florida, he went to play two seasons at Florida State (NCAA Div. IA) for a poor record of 84 yards and 2 TDs on race.
order to gain playing time, he decided to transfer to Georgia Southern (NCAA Div. I-AA) where he made two big seasons (2006-2007) : 1 737-yard race, 12 TDs. It is named in the Second Team All-Socon in 2007.
He played in 2009 in the IFL Bloomington Extreme (3 games, 16 carries for 82 yards and 3 TDs). Last January, Lamar Lewis had been signed by Allen Wranglers (SCD) before being released mid February.
Lewis has had a few days to acclimatise and has already participated in the game Sunday at the Templar Cougars with a touchdown on kick off return, 7 races for 17 yards and 3 receptions for 35 yards.

team of the week
After a weekend we would also charge very well have to talk about the lyrics that put her paw on the Conference North with a victory in the Elite hard-won at Amiens. We also could talk about the surprising winners of Grenoble magnificent derby Rhone Alps. But the result which seemed at once the most surprising and most important of the weekend is on the side of the D2 that we found with the clear victory of 30-0 Giants at St Etienne Cannes in a duel between undefeated teams
So those Etienne (3-0) alone at the top of their pool and new favorites in the South in Golden Helmet. Having surprised many people last year for their first season in the Golden Helmet (promoted they finished 3rd in the Southern Conference), the Giants continue their ascent in the national hierarchy. Who would have thought they would win at Cannes there are two or three years?!
Ludovic Bernon the head coach of the team returns to this wonderful start to the season:
- Let us first on this game, you imagine such a score?
- Not at all! We knew that we were very well prepared. Much has watched their videos before the match. We have worked hard since the start of the season and we knew it would be a great appointment. The team was ready, the missed appointments the first day and the trip to Cannes for anything (weather-related postponement) was even more motivated. But no one imagined that the final score would be of this type.
are marked on the first game of the match (on the back of the kick off) and then on the next possession they were intercepted in a game that had just repréré video. After starting this ideal, the defense made a very serious work.
- Following these matches go hen, the first assessment for you?
- We will try to keep this documentation first place playoff. We take match after match without asking too many questions. The calendar encourages us to look at the next game already likely to be very important just for the playoffs with the receipt of Kang (first in the other pool South 0.3-0 as well). A great meeting you who will oblige us stay focused and motivated.
- What are the objectives of the club?
- With only one playoff spot for hen it was difficult to give a goal to qualify early in the season. So once the maintenance assured we wanted to do the best you can. The group with whom I worked for 4 years and the D4 matures. We will therefore take the games one after the other and hope for a great adventure.
- Elite you think?
- No outright no. Our club is just starting to organize. Our junior team is only in its first season and was not even younger team. For the Elite we need to reserve train coaches, think of other revenue, another budget. We hope to be in the Elite eventually but not immediately. If it happens to us after this year we'll see.
- Your two imports appear to be very well integrated ....
- Yes perfectly. But we must not lower our performance to that. Our American rider (Don Craig) has not played since Cannes slightly injured knee. Zak Buis (Canada, Bishop U) made a very big benefit to the position of strong and we are very happy with this recruitment, but we try to build a true full style of play and how long the club.
