" Given the age and health of the reverend, it is considered appropriate to require the guilty to retire to a life of prayer and penance, and reparation to victims its abuses, "said Archbishop.
Karadima The father, a former trainer of priests, was charged in April 2010 by five adults themselves now occupying positions in the Chilean Catholic Church, sexual abuse dating back twenty years when he was charged with a posh parish of Santiago.
The Chilean courts had opened an investigation into the case, one of a dozen pending proceedings in Chile for alleged cases of pedophilia against members of the clergy, but it had closed the case without follow late 2010.
An appellate court must still shortly be reviewing a motion for reinvestigation.
Meanwhile, the Archbishop of Santiago at the time, Francisco Javier Errazuriz, had forwarded a dossier to the Vatican, which conducted its own investigation, the conclusions reached at the Church in Chile last month.
According to the sanction of the Vatican sent by Bishop Ezzati, the father can no longer occupy Karadima of priestly or meet people he was a trainer or spiritual guide, and could be expelled from the clergy in case of contravention.
